First Sunday of Advent

Yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent.  We begin a 4-week time of preparation of receiving Jesus.  Advent is of course mostly associated with Christmas and the birth of Jesus, the Christ. What’s the first thing you think of when you mention Advent? Christmas, or getting ready for Christmas…

Advent can be a time of incredible spiritual growth if we approach it the right way. Many people associate Lent as the time of a spiritual journey to a deeper conversion and certainly it is.  I told someone the other day…2020 has been one continuous Lenten experience.  Advent can also be that time that allows us to really focus on our spiritual lives and for deeper continual conversion.

Tonight, we are going to divide the program into 2 parts.  The first half we will talk mostly about Advent and how it relates to Christmas.  The second half will be more about being prepared for Jesus coming again.  Are you ready?

Thanksgiving-5.jpg

Thanksgiving 2020

Tonight, we are going to focus on thanksgiving.  Not just because the holiday of Thanksgiving is this week, but because being thankful to God should be our immediate go to attitude toward God every day. Giving thanks to God should be our foundation of prayer.

Along with this attitude of gratitude should also be an attitude of praise.  These two really do go hand in hand.

We are going to talk a lot about prayer and how this approach of focusing on being thankful and praising God for Being who he is will change your life?

All I Know Is… you better get right with god

I will tell you that we are in battle against evil spirits that I don’t think any of us really and truly , fully understand.  Satan is prowling about with his legions of demons looking for the ruin of souls.  He is using his entire arsenal of lies, deceit, and sowing division among people and families.  He is creating situations in the US and around the world where everything seems backwards.  What’s right is wrong and what’s wrong is right.  Lies are said to be truth and truth is said to be lies.

I made a comment the other day in conversation with a friend, that it’s hard… not to think we are living in Apocalyptic times. I also said  …All I know is you better get right with God.

The person looked at me and said…. What does that mean? Get right with God?  How do you do that?

Fr. James Altman

Fr. Altman is a priest, who currently is the pastor at St. James the Less in LaCrosse Wisconsin.  Fr. Altman is also a priest who has burst onto the national scene because of his powerful homilies that were streamed during the lockdown, on YouTube and the internet.  He has also recorded additional videos that have gained national attention and even considered by some to be controversial, related to this election and politics in this country.  I was made aware of this amazing man of God a few months ago and I can tell you that he has inspired me personally, challenged me spiritually and encouraged  me to also be unafraid to simply speak the Truth.
